William Thomas Jackson was born October 27, 1845 in Fairforest, SC. He served in the 18th SCVI, Company 'C' known as the Cross Keys Boys,from October 09,1863 until April 10, 1865. He had both arms broken in the explosion of the mine at the Crater and was wounded in both shoulders at the battle of Burgess Mill, Va. He died on March 14, 1925 in Cross Keys,SC. He was married three times and had 9 children. He owned two farms and a country store at his death.

Buried at Lisbon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mountville, Laurens Co., S.C.

Abner joined on 19 Dec. 1863. He was with Holcombe's Legion, Elliots Brigade. He was captured at the 'Crater' at Petersburg. He died of Chronic diarrhea while a prisoner of war at Elmira.

Killed at the Battle of the Crater. Memorial to PVT Dowdle and other S. Carolinians killed at the Crater located on a plaque in the Old Blandford Church, Blandford Cemetary, Petersburg, VA.

Francis was about 25 years old when he joined on 2 April 1862 at Charleston. Enlisted by Col. Gadberry. His original enlistment document survived. He suffers from chronic diarrhea and is hospitalized several times. In March 1864 he is on detached duty as a Teamster. In April 1864 he is in the hospital in Wilmington NC. He has not been paid in 8 months. Last record of pay was 31 Dec 1863. 29 March 1865 he suffers a gunshot to the left ankle and is in the hospital in Farmville Va. He survived the war and lived to at least 1880. He was the husband of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed Sarah L Young.

John was born in Johnson Co. North Carolina. He was 25 years old when he enlisted in Darlington District So. Carolina on 6 Feb 1862 and mustered in at Charleston, S C on 14 April. He was 5 foot ten inches tall, blue eyes,black hair and dark complexion. He fought until the end. Paroled at Appamatox on 9 April 1865. He was the husband of my 4th great aunt, Catherine Howle 1853 - 1866. She was his 2nd wife.

Andy served from early 1862 until the surrender at Appomatox. He was wounded in action during the siege of Petersburg, VA shortly before the battle of the Crater, and was sent to SC to recuperate. This was fortunate as the explosion that formed the Crater resulted in many casualties in the 18th SC Infantry.

John was born 17 June 1838 in Darlington Co. SC In 1860 he is an Overseer on a plantation. He has 7 cards in his archival file. He enlisted in Co I known as the Darlington Rifles at Darlington and mustered at Petersburg, Va. 25 Oct 1864. Enlisted by Lt. Col. Allison serving in Wallace's Brigade. He is in the fight at Petersburg and was shot in the left hand on 2 Dec 1864 and after spending a week at the Hospital in Richmond he is given a 60-day wounded furlough at Darlington. By the end of his furlough the lines around Richmond were collapsing.
* Note to researchers: our John's father is Curtis Rhodes, there is another J.F Rhodes from Darlington and his father is Caleb Rhodes, he served in the Pee Dee Artillery and died in the war.

Our John died 27 May 1911 and is buried in the Black Creek Baptist Church Cem, Dovesville, Darlington Co. SC. He was the father-in-law of my 3rd cousin 4 x removed.

William was 19 years old from Darlington Co. SC. He joined Capt J.W. Norwood's Co H 18th SC Vol's. at Camp Hampton 10 Jan 1862. This became Co I 18th SC Infantry. He served honorably thru the war and was captured on the Petersburg line on 25 March 1865. Sent to Point Lookout and released on 6 June 1865 after ' Swallowing the Yellow Dog'.

James was born 19 Oct 1836 in Effingham Twp, Darlington co. SC. He has 14 items in his archival file. He enlisted 26 Mar 1862 at Darlington Court House, Darlington Co. SC. and mustered at Charleston. Moving into Virginia he fought at 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Rappahannock Station, Siege of Jackson, Miss. Returned to Charleston and while stationed on Sullivans Island he was diagnosed with Cachexia, a disease characterized by poor health with wasting and malnutrition. Discharged 13 Feb 1864. He is described as 5 feet 10 in height, with blue eyes, sallow complexion and black hair. He died 4 Feb 1890 and is buried in the Center Community in Darlington Co. SC. We are related by marriage. He was sworn into service by Col. Gadberry and was in Capt. Floyds Company at time of discharge.
